KELP FERTILIZERS FOR A NATURAL ADVANTAGE

One of the first seagrass harvesting companies in Australia, with a business built on a

reputation for quality products.

About Us
Seagold, or Seaweed Sales Australia, as it was known back then, was started in 1986 by Mr. Russell Woodward of South Australia, who identified a huge resource sitting on the beach at the south-eastern township of Kingston, South Australia, a simple seagrass with huge effects on the growth and development of plants. The seagrass, ‘Possidonius Australus’, or ‘tape seaweed’ as it is commonly known, had for thousands of years simply washed onto the beach, where it rotted, and provided life giving energy to the surrounding environment. Seagrasses have long been known to have very special properties in agriculture, and their use in the cultivation goes back many thousands of years. Russell began composting, and then hand-bagging composted seagrass and selling it to very willing clients who also understood the products unique nature of his product, developing sales to flower growers, commercial and domestic vegetable growers alike.  He was well known at agricultural fairs across Australia, and in time, began exporting his quality products to the world. His untimely death in 2007 saw the business taken over by one of his employees, John Elson, who wished to continue supplying quality seagrass fertilizers to a ready market. Seagold now imports kelp products to supplement its range of products to an ever growing clientelle base, with products that can be applied in a liquid form direct to the roots of the plants, or used as a foliar application to the leaves of plants for an almost instant boost to the health and vibrant growth of plants. Now widely used on commercial vegetable, fruit, vine, olive and grain crops, Seagold’s reputation, which commenced with such humble beginnings in a  small shed in a remote country town has spread to the world. Russell’s philosophy was always “you are what you eat”, and “you get out what you put in” which has led to the expansion of a small business that nowsupplies the world with high quality natural fertilizers !
